BS 7629-1 600/1000V SR Insulated Flexible Fire Resistant Control Cable
BS 7629-1 600/1000V SR Insulated Flexible Fire Resistant Control Cable is a high-capacity fire-resistant control cable for power supply and signal transmission in indoor, outdoor and wet environments. It combines copper conductors, fire-resistant silicone-rubber insulation and an LSZH outer sheath, with conductor classes selected according to cross section.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The product is based on a BS 7629-1 design concept adapted for 600/1000V applications. Conductors up to 10 mm² are plain annealed copper stranded to IEC/EN 60228 Class 2, while sections above 10 mm² use flexible IEC/EN 60228 Class 5 conductors. The cores are insulated with fire-resistant silicone-rubber compound type EI2, cabled together with suitable non-hygroscopic fillers and finished with an LSZH outer sheath.
This construction is intended for fixed laying in free air, pipe or conduit, on masonry and metal structures, or suspended installations. The cable is specifically aimed at environments where, in the event of fire, smoke, toxic or corrosive gases present a serious risk to people or could damage facilities, equipment or goods. Typical service duties include emergency exits, alarm signals, smoke or gas warning systems and escalator circuits.

WHY THE CONDUCTOR CLASS CHANGES WITH SIZE
The listed conductor construction changes at the larger cross sections. Up to 10 mm², the product uses Class 2 stranded copper conductors; above 10 mm², the brochure specifies Class 5 flexible conductors. This allows the larger cable sizes to retain improved handling and installation flexibility as conductor diameter and cable mass increase.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
- Emergency-exit supply circuits.
- Alarm signal circuits.
- Smoke or gas warning systems.
- Escalator feeding circuits.
- Power supply and signal transmission in indoor or outdoor installations.
- Wet-environment fixed installations.
- Fixed laying in free air, pipe or conduit.
- Installation on masonry and metal structures or suspended routes.
- Locations where reduced smoke, toxic gas and corrosive gas emissions are important during fire.
SELECTION GUIDANCE
Selection should consider voltage, conductor cross section, conductor class, number of cores, installation method, route length, fire-performance requirement and environmental conditions. The broad 1.5-16 mm² range allows the same cable family to cover small control circuits and higher-current emergency-supply duties.
- Confirm 600/1000V system voltage.
- Choose the required number of cores.
- Select conductor size from the listed 1.5-16 mm² range.
- Check whether the selected size uses Class 2 or Class 5 conductor construction.
- Confirm whether the installation is indoor, outdoor or in a wet environment.
- Check current-carrying capacity for the actual reference installation method.
- Check voltage drop for the circuit length and current.
- Confirm required PH60, mechanical-shock or water-spray fire performance where applicable.
- Confirm sheath colour, cable code, drum length and required test documentation in the RFQ.
