International Airport Expansion Project in Saudi Arabia

Country / Year

Saudi Arabia / 2024

Project Background

As part of the country’s long-term transportation development strategy, an international airport underwent a major expansion to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and cargo operations. The project included a new passenger terminal, airport utilities, airside support facilities, parking structures, and associated electrical infrastructure designed to ensure safe and reliable airport operations.

Customer Requirements

The EPC contractor required a comprehensive cable solution covering power distribution, building services, fire protection systems, airport operations, and auxiliary facilities. Products needed to provide excellent fire performance, low smoke emission, long-term reliability, and compliance with international construction standards.

Product Scope

Medium-voltage power cables, low-voltage power cables, fire-resistant cables, low-smoke halogen-free cables, control cables, communication cables, grounding conductors, cable accessories, and building electrical materials.

Technical Standards

IEC 60502, IEC 60228, IEC 60331, IEC 60332, IEC 60754, IEC 61034, BS EN standards, airport authority specifications, and project engineering requirements.

Supply Challenge

The airport expansion involved multiple construction contractors working simultaneously across different zones. Cable deliveries had to be carefully coordinated with civil construction, MEP installation, and commissioning activities while maintaining complete technical documentation and quality traceability.

Solution

A centralized project management approach coordinated manufacturing, inspection, logistics, and documentation according to the master construction schedule. Cable deliveries were arranged in phases to support each construction milestone, while comprehensive testing documentation simplified site acceptance.

Delivery Result

All products were delivered on schedule, supporting the successful completion of the airport expansion. The electrical infrastructure provided reliable power distribution, enhanced operational safety, and supported long-term airport development.
