Multicore Control Cable 0.6/1kV

Multicore Control Cable is a 0.6/1kV control-cable family available with PVC or XLPE insulation for industrial, commercial, mining and utility control circuits. The product family includes PVC-insulated multicore cables with a dedicated earth conductor and XLPE-insulated unarmored multicore cables, allowing the cable construction to be selected according to circuit configuration, conductor size and operating requirements.

Key Advantages

  • Two insulation options: PVC V-90 and XLPE X-90 constructions are available for different control-circuit requirements.
  • Wide configuration range: the PVC + E version covers small-section multicore control circuits, while the XLPE version covers larger 3-core and 4-core configurations.
  • Flexible installation: suitable for unenclosed installation, conduit, direct burial or underground ducts where the cable is not subject to mechanical damage.
  • AS/NZS compliance: both variants reference AS/NZS 5000.1, AS/NZS 3008 and AS/NZS 1125.

Description

Multicore control cables are used to transmit control, switching, signalling and auxiliary electrical functions between equipment within industrial and utility electrical systems.

The AMPO CABLE 0.6/1kV range covered on this page contains two principal construction options:

PVC Insulated, PVC Sheathed Multi-core+E Control Cable. This construction uses plain annealed copper conductors, PVC V-90 insulation, a green/yellow earth conductor and PVC 5V-90 outer sheath. The catalogue range covers 1.5mm² and 2.5mm² conductors with configurations from 2C+E up to 50C+E. The standard sheath colour shown in the catalogue is orange.

XLPE Insulated, PVC Sheathed Unarmored Multicore Control Cable. This construction uses plain annealed copper conductors, XLPE X-90 insulation and PVC 5V-90 outer sheath. The supplied catalogue covers 3-core and 4-core cables in 10mm², 16mm² and 25mm² conductor sizes. The standard sheath colour shown is black.

These two constructions therefore belong to the same multicore control cable family but should not be treated as interchangeable products.

Key Features

  • Plain annealed copper conductors are used in both cable constructions.
  • PVC V-90 or XLPE X-90 insulation is available according to the selected construction.
  • Both variants use PVC 5V-90 outer sheathing.
  • The PVC-insulated range incorporates a dedicated earth conductor and extends from 2C+E to 50C+E.
  • The XLPE-insulated catalogue range covers 3-core and 4-core constructions in larger conductor sizes.
  • Both constructions are intended for control-circuit applications where significant mechanical damage is not expected.
  • Cable construction, conductor size, number of cores and applicable technical table should be specified during enquiry and ordering.

Product Applications

  • Industrial plants and manufacturing facilities
  • Commercial electrical installations
  • Mining facilities
  • Electricity authority and utility systems
  • Control panels and switchgear interconnections
  • Plant auxiliary circuits
  • Underground ducts and conduits
  • Direct-buried control circuits where the cable is not exposed to mechanical damage

From Production to Delivery

From raw material preparation to final shipmen, every stage is caretuly controled to ensure consistent conductor quality, reliable pertormance, and sae delivery. Our roduction,
inspection, packaging, and logistics processes are managed in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.

Production

Copper conductors are stranded to the specified conductor construction, followed by PVC V-90 or XLPE X-90 insulation according to the selected cable type. The insulated cores are assembled into the required multicore configuration and finished with the specified PVC outer sheath.

Cable and conductor quality inspection and testing

Inspection

Inspection should verify conductor construction, insulation and sheath condition, dimensional parameters, electrical characteristics and the applicable catalogue requirements before release.

Wooden drums of overhead conductors loaded into shipping container

Packaging

Finished control cables are supplied on suitable drums or coils according to cable size, length and shipment requirements. Product identification should distinguish the insulation system, conductor size, number of cores and production batch.

Shipping

Shipment records should link the supplied cable lengths to the applicable packing list, technical documentation and inspection records to support warehouse handling and project traceability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PVC and XLPE multicore control cable?

The main difference is the insulation system and the catalogue configuration. The PVC version uses PVC V-90 insulation and is offered in 1.5mm² and 2.5mm² Multi-core+E constructions, while the XLPE version uses XLPE X-90 insulation and is listed in 3-core and 4-core configurations from 10mm² to 25mm².

Yes. Both supplied product catalogues identify the cables as 0.6/1kV control cables.

Both catalogues reference AS/NZS 5000.1, AS/NZS 3008 and AS/NZS 1125. Project specifications should also be confirmed before ordering.

Yes. The catalogue version is identified as Multi-core+E and includes a nominal earth conductor corresponding to the 1.5mm² or 2.5mm² conductor size.

The PVC-insulated catalogue covers 2C+E through 50C+E depending on conductor size. The XLPE-insulated catalogue covers 3-core and 4-core constructions.

The application descriptions in both catalogues include direct burial and underground ducts where the cables are not subject to mechanical damage.
