AS/NZS 3008 Armoured Control Cable 0.6/1kV
AS/NZS 3008 Armoured Control Cable is a 0.6/1kV multicore-plus-earth cable designed for fixed control circuits where conductor size, installation method, current-carrying capacity and voltage drop must be considered together. The cable uses plain annealed copper conductors, PVC V-90 insulation, PVC bedding, galvanised steel wire armour and PVC 5V-90 outer sheath. For the available 1.5 mm² and 2.5 mm² sizes, current ratings are provided for unenclosed-in-air, direct-buried and buried-in-duct installations, together with conductor resistance, reactance and three-phase voltage-drop data to support practical cable selection in commercial, industrial, mining and utility systems.

Current Rating by Installation Method
The same conductor size can carry different current depending on how the cable is installed because heat dissipation changes with the surrounding environment. The values below therefore separate unenclosed-in-air, direct-buried and buried-in-duct conditions, and also distinguish 2C+E from larger multicore configurations.
Area mm² | Configuration | Air A | Direct Buried A | In Ducts A | Max DC R @20°C Ω/km | Max AC R @75°C Ω/km | Reactance Ω/km | 3-ph V-drop @75°C mV/A·m |
1.5 | 2C+E | 18 | 28 | 22 | 13.6 | 16.5 | 0.111 | 33.0 |
1.5 | 3-50C+E | 15 | 24 | 19 | 13.6 | 16.5 | 0.111 | 33.0 |
2.5 | 2C+E | 26 | 40 | 31 | 7.41 | 9.01 | 0.102 | 18.0 |
2.5 | 3-50C+E | 22 | 34 | 26 | 7.41 | 9.01 | 0.102 | 18.0 |
How to Read the Ratings
Installation Method
For 2C+E cables, 1.5 mm² is rated at 18 A in air, 28 A direct buried and 22 A in ducts, while 2.5 mm² is rated at 26 A, 40 A and 31 A respectively. These differences show why installation method must be confirmed before cable size is selected.
Core Count
The available data groups 3C+E through 50C+E separately from 2C+E. At the same conductor area, the grouped multicore rating is lower. For example, 2.5 mm² is 22 A in air for 3-50C+E compared with 26 A for 2C+E.
Resistance and Voltage Drop
The 2.5 mm² conductor has lower resistance and lower voltage-drop data than the 1.5 mm² conductor. Maximum d.c. resistance at 20°C falls from 13.6 Ω/km to 7.41 Ω/km, while the listed three-phase voltage drop at 75°C falls from 33.0 to 18.0 mV/A·m. This makes conductor size, route length and allowable voltage drop important parts of final selection.
Typical Applications
- Industrial control circuits requiring defined current capacity.
- Commercial building control systems.
- Mining installations with mechanical-protection requirements.
- Utility and electricity-authority control networks.
- Direct-buried circuits.
- Underground ducts.
- Conduit installations.
- Unenclosed fixed installations where permitted by the project design.

From Production to Delivery
From raw material preparation to final shipmen, every stage is caretuly controled to ensure consistent conductor quality, reliable pertormance, and sae delivery. Our roduction,
inspection, packaging, and logistics processes are managed in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.
Production
Plain annealed copper conductors are insulated with PVC V-90, laid up with the required earth conductor, bedded, armoured with galvanised steel wire and finished with a PVC 5V-90 outer sheath. Production follows the approved core count, conductor size and dimensional schedule.
Inspection
Inspection includes conductor resistance, insulation and sheath condition, armour integrity, overall dimensions and electrical checks relevant to the approved cable schedule. Current-rating selection is then matched to the intended installation condition.
Packaging
Finished cable is wound onto suitable drums according to ordered size and length, with ends protected and drum identification prepared for project traceability.
Shipping
Before shipment, cable drums, packing records and technical documents are checked against the order. Test and inspection documentation can be supplied according to customer and project requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is AS/NZS 3008 Armoured Control Cable?
It is a 0.6/1kV multicore-plus-earth armoured control cable presented with installation-based current-rating, resistance, reactance and voltage-drop data for practical cable selection.
What current rating does 1.5 mm² 2C+E have?
18 A in air, 28 A direct buried and 22 A in ducts.
What current rating does 2.5 mm² 2C+E have?
26 A in air, 40 A direct buried and 31 A in ducts.
What is the voltage drop for 2.5 mm²?
The listed three-phase voltage drop at 75°C is 18.0 mV/A·m.
Why are 3-50C+E ratings lower than 2C+E?
The product data treats the larger multicore configurations separately because their thermal conditions differ from 2C+E.
Can the cable be direct buried?
Yes. Direct burial is one of the intended installation conditions for this product range.
