BS 7629-1 450/750V SR Insulated & Overall Screened Fire Resistant Control Cable

BS 7629-1 450/750V SR Insulated & Overall Screened Fire Resistant Control Cable is a flexible copper control cable for power, signal, emergency-circuit and fire-circuit wiring where strong rejection of electrostatic noise is required. It combines Class 5 flexible copper conductors, fire-resistant silicone-rubber insulation, aluminum/polyester overall screening with tinned-copper drain wire, and an LSZH outer sheath.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The cable is based on a BS 7629-1 design concept adapted for a 450/750V flexible screened control-cable construction. Its Class 5 plain annealed copper conductors provide flexibility for installation and termination, while fire-resistant silicone-rubber insulation type EI2 forms the primary insulation system around each core. The insulated cores are laid together with suitable non-hygroscopic fillers and wrapped with an aluminum/polyester overall screen, supported by a tinned-copper drain wire for screen continuity and termination.

The product is intended for circuits where fire resistance and noise rejection are both important. Compared with an unscreened fire-resistant control cable, the overall screen provides an additional barrier against electrostatic interference in power and signal wiring. The LSZH outer sheath supports installation in enclosed or occupied environments where reduced smoke and halogen emissions are required during fire conditions.

WHY THIS CONSTRUCTION IS USED

This cable combines three functional requirements in one construction: flexible control wiring, fire-resistant circuit performance and overall electrostatic screening. The Class 5 conductor supports easier routing and termination than a rigid solid-conductor design; the silicone-rubber insulation provides the fire-resistant core insulation; and the aluminum/polyester screen with tinned-copper drain wire provides a defined screen layer around the multicore assembly.

For control and signal circuits installed close to power equipment, switching devices or other sources of electrical disturbance, the overall screen is especially relevant because it helps separate the internal control conductors from external electrostatic interference. The screen should be terminated in accordance with the project grounding and EMC practice.
