CCS Copper-Clad Steel Conductor

CCS conductor is made from copper-clad steel wires, with a copper outer layer bonded to a steel core in each strand. It is specified where a project needs more mechanical strength than a comparable soft copper conductor while retaining a copper surface and defined conductivity. The 30% and 40% IACS grades must be identified separately.

Key Advantages

  • Copper surface: Supports compatible copper connections and selected grounding duties.
  • Steel reinforcement: Provides greater mechanical strength than an equivalent soft copper wire.
  • Defined conductivity choices: 30% and 40% IACS grades support different project priorities.

Product Overview

In CCS, each composite wire contains both materials: steel provides the structural component and copper forms the conductive outer layer. The final strand may contain one or several wires depending on the specified construction. It is not equivalent to solid copper and should not be described or priced solely by copper area.

Selecting between 30% and 40% IACS requires the buyer to compare resistance, fault or signal duty, tensile load, diameter, mass and connection method. The copper layer must also remain intact during handling, clamping and termination, so approved fittings and installation practice are essential.

Key Features

  • Copper-clad steel composite wire combines a conductive copper surface with a load-bearing steel component.
  • Standard conductivity classes allow electrical and mechanical requirements to be balanced deliberately.
  • Higher tensile capability than soft copper can suit messenger, grounding and structural utility duties.
  • Connector selection must account for strand construction, conductivity class, copper surface and possible galvanic interfaces.

Product Applications

  • Grounding and earthing conductors designed for copper-clad steel
  • Messenger, support and guying duties requiring conductivity and tensile strength
  • Utility bonding or specialised overhead applications specified by the project engineer

From Production to Delivery

From raw material preparation to final shipmen, every stage is caretuly controled to ensure consistent conductor quality, reliable pertormance, and sae delivery. Our roduction,
inspection, packaging, and logistics processes are managed in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.

Overhead conductor being wound onto a cable drum during production

Production

Steel wire receives a continuous copper cladding, is drawn to the specified size and is then concentrically stranded.

Cable and conductor quality inspection and testing

Inspection

Inspection checks cladding continuity, strand count, wire diameter, finished geometry and conductivity-grade table requirements.

Packaged cable drums stored in the factory warehouse

Packaging

CCS is wound to avoid sharp bends or abrasion that could damage the copper surface; conductor ends are protected from moisture and impact.

Wooden cable drums secured inside a shipping container

Shipping

Shipment identification states conductivity grade, construction, standard and length so grounding and connector selection remain traceable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the practical difference between 30% and 40% IACS CCS?

The conductivity class changes electrical resistance and may also correspond to different composite-wire properties. Choose the grade from the required current, grounding, signal and mechanical calculations rather than assuming they are interchangeable.

Not necessarily. The required product should follow the specified manufacturing and bonding requirements of the applicable standard. The purchase document should state copper-clad steel and the required conductivity and test criteria.

Only after engineering assessment. Resistance, fault-current performance, corrosion environment, burial or exposure conditions, connections, mechanical duty and local rules may prevent a direct substitution.

Use connectors and installation instructions approved for the exact copper-clad steel size and strand design. Cutting, bending and compression methods should avoid cracking, peeling or excessive local damage to the copper surface.

Describe whether the conductor is overhead, buried, embedded or exposed to salt, chemicals or dissimilar metals. This allows the complete conductor-and-connector system to be reviewed.
