Duplex Service Drop Cable for Single-Phase Overhead Service

Duplex service drop cable combines one weather-resistant insulated 1350 aluminium phase conductor with a bare AAC, aluminium-alloy or ACSR neutral messenger. It is used for single-phase two-wire overhead service, outdoor lighting and permitted temporary supplies at 600 V or lower. Available designs use the specified PE or XLPE phase covering, neutral construction and recognised code-name combination, with delivery length selected for the service route.

Product Overview

The bare neutral messenger performs two duties: it completes the electrical circuit and supports the suspended assembly. Its material and stranding therefore affect neutral-current capability, rated strength, mass, sag and fitting selection. AAC, aluminium-alloy and ACSR messenger groups provide different mechanical and electrical characteristics and must be matched to the intended span and service arrangement.

Duplex is intended for a two-wire single-phase connection with one insulated phase conductor. It is not interchangeable with triplex cable for single-phase three-wire service or quadruplex cable for three-phase service. Buyers should specify the service voltage, phase conductor, messenger material and size, insulation type, route length, span conditions, code name where available and connection hardware.

Key Features

  • Single-phase conductor arrangement:A single insulated 1350 aluminium phase conductor keeps the service assembly compact, reducing the number of separate conductors that must be handled for the specified two-wire connection.
  • Neutral messenger function:The bare AAC, AAAC or ACSR neutral acts as both return conductor and messenger, allowing its electrical and tensile duties to be addressed within one product construction.
  • PE and XLPE phase covering:Weather-resistant PE or XLPE covers the phase conductor; selecting the scheduled material keeps covering thickness, temperature basis and finished diameter aligned with the service design.
  • Code-name construction data:product code names link phase size, neutral family, strength, dimensions and mass, helping utilities reproduce an established service drop and identify compatible clamps and connectors.

Product Applications

  • Short single-phase overhead service spans between a distribution pole or transformer and a designated customer connection point
  • Outdoor lighting feeds and small secondary circuits where the utility drawing specifies a two-conductor neutral-supported assembly
  • Temporary aerial power connections on sites where local rules permit duplex service-drop construction and suitable clearances

Technical Specifications

Technical data is arranged by phase conductor and bare neutral-messenger group in accordance with the cited ASTM conductor requirements and ANSI/ICEA S-76-474.

From Production to Delivery

From raw material preparation to final shipmen, every stage is caretuly controled to ensure consistent conductor quality, reliable pertormance, and sae delivery. Our roduction,
inspection, packaging, and logistics processes are managed in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.

cable production line with finished cable being wound onto a reel

Production

The aluminium phase conductor is stranded and extruded with the specified PE or XLPE covering, then twisted at the scheduled lay around the selected bare AAC, AAAC or ACSR neutral messenger.

Cable and conductor quality inspection and testing

Inspection

Inspection covers phase stranding, neutral construction, covering thickness and surface, identification, finished diameter, messenger strength and the electrical or mechanical tests required for the ordered code-name assembly.

Packaged cable drums stored in the factory warehouse

Packaging

The completed duplex cable is wound on a reel chosen for delivery length and bend limits, with end protection and secure lagging used to reduce covering damage during storage and site handling.

Wooden cable drums secured inside a shipping container

Shipping

Shipment markings include the code name, phase size, neutral type, covering material, reel length and manufacturing lot, giving the installer a direct link between the delivered reel and service schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is duplex service drop suitable for my single-phase connection?

Duplex serves a specific two-wire single-phase arrangement with one insulated phase and a bare neutral messenger. Send us the service voltage and utility connection diagram; we can compare the required arrangement with the available range and prepare an offer that states both the electrical and supporting conductors clearly.

The messenger choice depends on neutral current, span, tensile duty, mass, corrosion conditions and available fittings. If you provide the route and loading information, we can show the relevant available options and their stated values so your engineer can select the most suitable neutral construction.

Use the covering specified for the utility service. Where both appear for the selected product construction, we can quote the requested construction and show its corresponding dimensions and temperature basis. If you are replacing an existing cable, a photograph or code name helps us avoid assuming that a different polymer is equivalent.

Accessory options can be included when the phase size, messenger material, finished diameter and connection method are known. We will organise the cable and hardware items in the same quotation, making it easier for your team to check that wedges, connectors and support fittings belong to the selected duplex assembly.

The code name is a useful starting point, especially for repeat supply. We will still restate the phase conductor, neutral messenger, covering and standard in the offer and ask for quantity, reel length and inspection needs, giving both purchasing and installation teams a complete product description.

Please provide system voltage, phase size and stranding, neutral material and size, PE or XLPE, code name if known, quantity, reel lengths, span information, accessories and delivery destination. We can identify any missing technical detail before issuing the final quotation.
