IEC 60502-1 CVVS Screened Control Cable 600V

IEC 60502-1 referenced CVVS Screened Control Cable is a multicore copper control cable with PVC insulation, a 0.1 mm annealed copper-tape overall shield and a black PVC outer sheath. It is intended for control circuits that require electrostatic shielding in underground ducts, conduit and open-air industrial installations.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

CVVS Screened Control Cable uses stranded annealed copper conductors insulated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The insulated cores are assembled with optional non-hygroscopic filler and optional polyester (Mylar) binding tape, wrapped with a 0.1 mm annealed copper-tape shield, and protected by a black PVC outer sheath.

The overall copper-tape screen is the defining construction feature of CVVS. It is used where electrostatic interference can affect control-circuit stability, particularly when multicore control cables are routed in underground ducts, conduit or exposed industrial routes. The listed maximum conductor temperature is 70°C, the circuit voltage is not exceeding 600V, and the test voltage is 3500V.

WHY CVVS USES AN OVERALL COPPER-TAPE SHIELD

CVVS is selected when a control circuit needs an overall metallic screen to reduce the effect of electrostatic interference from nearby power cables, switching equipment or other electrical sources. The annealed copper tape surrounds the multicore assembly and creates a defined shielding layer beneath the PVC outer sheath.

The shield does not replace correct EMC and grounding design. Its termination method should be coordinated with the control-system grounding philosophy, equipment design and project requirements.

  • Underground duct installations.
  • Conduit installations.
  • Open-air industrial control wiring.
  • Supervisory and station-control circuits requiring a screened multicore cable.

inspection, packaging, and logistics processes are managed in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.

cable production line with finished cable being wound onto a reel

Production

Stranded annealed copper conductors are insulated with PVC, assembled into the required multicore configuration, optionally filled and bound with polyester tape, wrapped with the specified 0.1 mm annealed copper-tape shield, then covered with the black PVC sheath.

Cable and conductor quality inspection and testing

Inspection

Inspection focuses on conductor construction, PVC insulation, core identification, copper-tape screen continuity and coverage, sheath integrity, overall diameter, conductor resistance and test-voltage requirements.

Overhead conductors packed on wooden drums for shipment

Packaging

Finished cable is wound on suitable drums according to ordered size, weight and length. Cable ends are protected and drum identification can include cable type, conductor size, core count, length and project reference.

Wooden drums of overhead conductors loaded into shipping container

Shipping

Before shipment, cable drums and technical documents are checked against the order. Inspection records, product identification and requested test documents can be prepared for project approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose CVVS instead of an unshielded PVC control cable?

Choose CVVS when the control circuit is exposed to electrostatic interference and the project calls for an overall metallic screen. The 0.1 mm annealed copper tape adds a dedicated shielding layer around the multicore assembly. If the route is electrically quiet and screening is not required, an unshielded PVC control cable may be simpler and more economical.

Both products use an overall annealed copper-tape shield, but their insulation systems are different. CVVS uses PVC insulation and the listed maximum conductor temperature is 70°C, while the CCVS product family uses XLPE insulation and a higher listed conductor-temperature capability. The project specification, temperature requirement and cable construction should determine which one is appropriate.

Yes. Underground duct, conduit and open-air installations are specifically listed as intended applications. For an actual project, the selected cable diameter should still be checked against conduit size, pulling space, bend conditions and termination dimensions.

The product provides a continuous overall copper-tape screen, but the brochure does not prescribe one universal grounding method. Shield termination should follow the project EMC and grounding philosophy, connected equipment and local installation practice. This should be confirmed during engineering rather than assumed during cable selection.

Confirm the exact IEC edition, required voltage designation and the test or approval documents expected by the customer. The product data references IEC 60502-1 and states a circuit voltage not exceeding 600V, so edition-specific compliance should be confirmed with the manufacturer before formal approval.

We provide a wide range of cable materials and electrical products, including aluminum conductors, aluminum rods, aluminum wires, overhead conductors, medium and low voltage power cables, cable insulation materials, filling materials, shielding materials, and cable manufacturing consumables. We provide customized solutions according to different cable manufacturing requirements.
