OPGW Vibration Damper with Armour Rods

Aeolian vibration is a high-frequency, low-amplitude motion produced when steady wind passes across an overhead cable. Repeated bending near suspension or tension attachment points can contribute to fatigue, so vibration control is considered as part of the complete line design. A Stockbridge-type Vibration Damper uses offset masses and a messenger element to dissipate energy over a range of frequencies. The preformed non-slip option uses a helical gripping arrangement on the protected cable section. These are different constructions within the available OPGW vibration control hardware range.

Selection is not a simple span-length lookup. OPGW outside diameter and mechanical properties, everyday tension, span, terrain category, wind conditions, attachment hardware and available placement distance all affect the recommendation. Armour rods help distribute clamp contact and are part of the stated assemblies. Quantity and position should follow an approved vibration study or utility requirement; the Vibration Damper does not replace correct suspension, dead-end or sag-tension design.
