Quadruplex Service Drop Cable for Three-Phase Overhead Service

Quadruplex service drop cable combines three weather-resistant insulated 1350 aluminium phase conductors with a bare AAC, 6201 aluminium-alloy or ACSR neutral messenger. It is used for three-phase four-wire overhead secondary and service connections at 600 V phase-to-phase or lower. Available designs include PE or XLPE phase insulation, alternative neutral constructions, ridge identification and established code-name combinations for utility, commercial and industrial service routes.

Product Overview

The neutral messenger supports the suspended bundle and performs the electrical neutral function, so its size and material must be considered with the three phase conductors. AAC, 6201 alloy and ACSR neutrals provide different strength, mass and conductivity. Longitudinal ridges distinguish the three covered phase conductors, but field phasing and electrical testing are still required during installation.

Quadruplex is specifically associated with a three-phase four-wire service arrangement. It should not be substituted for triplex cable, which serves a single-phase three-wire connection. Correct selection requires the service voltage, phase and neutral sizes, messenger family, PE or XLPE construction, span and loading information, utility code name where available, and the fittings used at the transformer and service point.

Key Features

  • Three-phase conductor arrangement:Three individually covered 1350 aluminium phase conductors form the current-carrying paths for a three-phase, four-wire service while remaining compactly arranged around the neutral messenger.
  • Neutral messenger options:AAC, 6201 alloy and ACSR neutral options provide distinct electrical and tensile characteristics, allowing the load-bearing member to be selected for the service span and environment.
  • Phase-ridge identification:Longitudinal ridges identify the individual phases in the product construction, helping installation teams maintain consistent phase recognition alongside the required testing and connection procedure.
  • Bundle diameter and accessories:PE or XLPE phase coverings and compressed conductors determine the completed bundle diameter, which supports more accurate matching of connectors, service clamps and reel-handling equipment.

Product Applications

  • Three-phase overhead service from a distribution transformer to commercial buildings, workshops or industrial service heads
  • Four-wire secondary distribution routes designed around a neutral-supported quadruplex assembly and identified phase conductors
  • Utility upgrades or replacement spans where phase loading, neutral duty, service fittings and code-name construction are assessed together

cable production line with finished cable being wound onto a reel

Production

Three compressed aluminium phase conductors are individually covered with PE or XLPE, marked by the specified ridge pattern and twisted around the selected AAC, 6201 alloy or ACSR neutral messenger.

Cable and conductor quality inspection and testing

Inspection

Inspection covers phase conductor size and identification, neutral construction, covering thickness and surface, finished diameter, rated strength and the electrical or mechanical tests listed for the ordered assembly.

Packaged cable drums stored in the factory warehouse

Packaging

The quadruplex cable is wound on a reel selected for bundle diameter, delivery length and site handling, with end and surface protection applied to reduce damage to the covered phase conductors.

Wooden cable drums secured inside a shipping container

Shipping

Reel labels and shipping documents show the code name, three phase sizes, neutral family, covering material, length and production batch, helping the receiving team allocate each assembly correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose quadruplex instead of triplex service drop?

Quadruplex is intended for a three-phase, four-wire connection, while triplex normally serves a single-phase, three-wire circuit. Send us the network connection diagram and voltage; we can identify the relevant product family and quote the complete phase and neutral arrangement without relying on the number of visible conductors alone.

The three phase conductors use longitudinal ridge identification: one has one ridge, another has two ridges and the third is plain. We will state the identification arrangement in the quotation so the site team can follow the utility’s phasing and testing procedure.

We can compare the listed AAC, 6201 alloy and ACSR options using your span, tensile duty, neutral current, corrosion environment and fitting requirements. The offer will show the chosen neutral construction separately from the phase conductors, giving your engineer a clear basis for review.

Clamp range and holding capacity depend on the neutral messenger diameter and strength, while phase connectors depend on the covered conductor size. If you send the selected code name and pole arrangement, we can include accessory options that correspond to that assembly rather than a generic quadruplex description.

Project reel lengths can be discussed from the route sections, bundle diameter, reel-weight limit and site lifting equipment. We use that information to prepare a practical delivery schedule and label each reel clearly, helping the installation team reduce unnecessary cuts and identify the intended section.

Please provide system voltage, three-phase four-wire arrangement, phase conductor size, neutral material and size, PE or XLPE, code name if known, quantity, reel lengths, span details, accessories and inspection documents. We can flag any missing selection detail before completing the offer.
