UL 44 XHHW-2 Unscreened Control Cable 600V

UL 44 XHHW-2 Unscreened Control Cable is a 600V multicore control cable using bare annealed copper conductors, flame-retardant XLPE insulation and a black special-PVC outer sheath. It is intended for industrial control circuits where a thermoset-insulated XHHW-2 construction is required without an overall metallic screen.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The defining feature of this product is its XHHW-2 insulation system. Each conductor is insulated with flame-retardant cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), giving the cable the thermoset-insulated construction associated with UL 44. The source product data lists a 600V voltage rating and a +90°C temperature rating.

The complete cable is unscreened and uses a black special-PVC outer sheath. The source product data lists use in the oil industry, Class 1, Division 2 hazardous locations, trays, wireways, ducts, conduit, aerial installations with messenger support, direct burial, wet or dry locations and outdoor cable trays where sunlight resistance is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose XHHW-2 instead of THHN/THWN-2?

Choose XHHW-2 when the project calls for a UL 44 thermoset-insulated conductor system using XLPE. THHN/THWN-2 uses a PVC/Nylon insulation system and is normally associated with UL 83. The correct choice should follow the project specification, installation environment and required cable listing.

The unscreened construction is suitable where the circuit does not require an overall metallic shield. If the cable will be routed near significant interference sources or the project explicitly requires screened control cable, a screened construction should be reviewed instead.

Yes. Wet and dry locations are both stated in the source product application. For formal approval, confirm the required wet-location and XHHW-2 markings on the supplied cable documentation.

The product data lists Class 1, Division 2 hazardous locations. The complete installation also depends on the governing electrical code, fittings, seals, wiring method and project approval requirements, so the cable should be reviewed as part of the whole hazardous-location design.

We provide a wide range of cable materials and electrical products, including aluminum conductors, aluminum rods, aluminum wires, overhead conductors, medium and low voltage power cables, cable insulation materials, filling materials, shielding materials, and cable manufacturing consumables. We provide customized solutions according to different cable manufacturing requirements.

Provide AWG size, number of cores, length, installation method and required ratings such as direct burial, wet location, sunlight resistance or hazardous-location use. Also state the UL documentation, cable marking, reel length and inspection documents required by the project.
